Kids Rooms

Here are some pictures of my kids' rooms.

This is my girls' room

 I just made a basic tab-top curtain out of the bed skirt that came with the bedding, and then I used the top sheet for the set to add the trim and make an extra pillow case for each girl.

My boys' room

 I was completely in love with a Nautica crib set that I saw about 5 years ago, but I didn't want to spend that much money on a crib set, so I decided to copy the idea.  The border is a Nautica border, but the comforter, curtain, and crib skirt are all a "mimic" of the Nautica look.  My wonderful Grandma embroidered all of the boats for me on her embroidery machine and then I made a crib size quilt that I turned into a comforter by adding the large navy border.  I also bought a couple of crib sheets that I got on sale and kept one and used the rest to add into the quilt and make extra pillow cases so that the crib bedding and twin bedding all match.  I also made a throw pillow, but you can't really see it in the picture.  Lucky when I originally bought the Nautica wall border (5 years ago) I had bought extra so when we moved and had another baby I still was able to make the room the same.  I actually have enough border to do another room if we move again, although my boys might be sick of boats by then!   

Sewing Boot Camp

A friend of mine wanted to make a crib skirt and matching curtain for her babies room.  I gave her sewing lessons that we later dubbed "Sewing Boot Camp".  She learned a lot in a short period of time.  I made her take out a lot of stiching to make sure it was perfect and there were times I thought she was going to strangle me, but as you can see everything turned out great! 

Movie Theater Room

These are some drapes that I made for a movie room. 



Dress turned into curtain

So I had this dress that I didn't really like, but I LOVED the fabric.  I was looking at my little sewing room window, looked down at my ill fitting dress and  decided to turn my dress into a curtain and here it is!  The panels are from the skirt, the black and white strip is from the waist band, and the ruffle on the top is from the bodice.

Dining Room Curtains

A friend of mine bought these valances from a store and wasn't completely happy with the way they looked.  I took them apart and stapled them to 1x6 pieces of wood, then they were installed using L brackets and mounting them to the wall.  This is a great way to make curtains work for various size windows as you often can not find the same rod for all sizes of windows. 

There weren't enough valances to fit all of the windows, so I had to cut and piece them together with a solid colored fabric that matched the rusty/red color.  So this valance is actually 6 pieces.

Curtains

Because of the weight and the way I wanted this to look, I used a piece of MDF and mounted the curtain into the ceiling.

Valances

Basice tab-top split valance with wood buttons.

This isn't a great picture of the valance, but it's a flat valance with beaded trim hung on a cafe style curtain rod.
